The Boeing 777-300ER has the latest version of First Class with eight large and private first class suites at the front of the aeroplane. The old regional variant of Air China First Class is woeful, with just an old fashioned recliner and a tiny TV screen that pops out of the armrest. There are new, old, and regional variants on Air China, and these are poles apart.

A very few of the latest planes now offer Air China Premium Economy, called Super Premium Economy class. From the livery – which is straight out of the 1970s – to the seats – which haven't changed much from the 1980s.Īir China are nothing if not traditional, with a three class layout on most long haul planes, with First, Business and Economy. In fact, not just dated but positively prehistoric. Which makes it a little odd when you get on board that Air Chinas' aircraft seem, well, just a bit dated. The fuselage and landing gear are also strengthened. This would combine the size of the 777-300 with the range of the 777-200ER by increasing the maximum take-off weight. The first aircraft to be developed was the 777-300ER, with an initial order from Air France. There was no longer a choice of engines as with the first generation. Engines were also switched to the newly developed GE90 engines. It kept commonality with the same fuselage and cockpit design but increased the wingspan (by almost four meters). In the late 1990s, Boeing began the development of these next-generation aircraft. This was dropped, though, in favor of keeping the capacity. Early proposals looked at shortening the 777-200 to develop a lower capacity but higher range variant (similar to what was done for the 747SP).
